Character Info

◎ Character's Name: Nesso Galland
◎ Character's Canon: Black Wolves Saga: Bloody Nightmare
◎ Character's Age: 24
◎ Canon Point: Decision time at Zanan
◎ Background/History:
The kingdom of Weblin is a kingdom of many different sorts of peoples. Huma (normal humans) live among other various people with animal traits such as Cathiy (cat people), Wolves, Hunts (dogs), Rabbits and many others. These animal traited people tend to have animal ears and tails when in their human form; they are also capable of taking a fully animal form, though most (aside from the wolves) do not since it's considered a bit on the savage, improper side of things. Sometimes an individual is born (to any species, though most often huma) with a condition known as Lobeira, which makes them fragile and prone to sickness. Most Lobeira die young because of their weakened states.

Other than these differences, Weblin is a fairly normal-ish medieval-ish kingdom. On the surface.

A decade ago, several events happened that changed the political and social landscape of Weblin drastically. At the time, the Garibaldi family -- a family of Cathiy -- was in power. They worked closely with the wolves, but then there was a revolt, played off by the Garibaldis as the wolves attacking the royal family and trying to overthrow them. At the same time a disease called Zodiva, also known as Mad Wolves Disease, appeared. The Garibaldi propaganda said this disease was something the wolves were infecting the populace were. As such, over the next decade, a decree was issued authorizing the killing of all the Wolves in Weblin. The Wolves population has, as a result, been nearly eliminated. Small bands still exist, and now those Wolves attack human villages, killing everyone and eating them. This is the popular story that is held as the truth -- though the actual truth will come out before too long.

This is the backdrop that Nesso has grown up in. Nesso's family, the Galland family, is a prestigious family with close ties to the current king Garibaldi. Nesso himself is a knight, the captain of an elite squadron known as the Gefreiter. He's known as a god on the battlefield, unparalleled in his ability with a sword and his prowess in combat. Because of his role as a knight, he is often away from his family.

The story of Black Wolves Saga: Bloody Nightmare centers around Nesso's beloved half-sister, Fiona. Because Fiona is a Lobeira she is physically frail and weakened, susceptible to many diseases, her father has set up a tower where she lives safely away from any chance of infection. She is well taken care of by her family as well as her servants, and because of this, she has lived to be sixteen despite her condition, even while the Zodiva plague rages through the country. Because of her family name and her age, she has drawn the attention of Mejojo von Garibaldi, the current crown prince of Weblin. So far she and her family have turned down his proposals due to her health and her being unable to live in the castle. But things are changing. Because Fiona has lived despite her condition, the people in the surrounding area have begun to think that she is a witch and blame her for their misfortunes including the Zodiva and the increase in wolf attacks in the nearby villages.

Mejojo uses this to his advantage, arresting Fiona and bringing her to the castle as a prisoner over the protests of Nesso and his family. Mejojo and his brother, Auger, tell Fiona that they will hold her at the castle to see if the misfortunes that she is blamed for happen around the castle now, and that's how they'll tell if she is a witch or not -- though they say it is for her own safety.

Nesso finds himself trying to defend his home against the unhappy villagers who are threatening the tower even though Fiona is gone. Nesso is joined by his vice-captain and close friend, Elza Clifford, as well as Zara.

Meanwhile, Nesso worries over his sister desperately. His attachment to her is a bit more than might be considered normal; he's devoted to her entirely. So he and his family and friends try to devise a way to get her back. When Nesso and Zara go to discuss it with the Garibaldi family, they are not permitted to see the king (who is ill) and instead are met by the twin cat princes Mejojo and Auger. Now the cat's true colors begin to show. The twins cast aside the loyalty (and the symbol of that trust and loyalty, a ceremonial dagger given to the Gallands by their father) that the Galland family has shown and earned and tell them that they won't honor it, making thinly veiled, or not at all veiled threats. Nesso begins to suspect that the events of ten years ago were not as they first seemed. They hold Zara in the castle to put him to use for his medicinal skills and order Nesso to the country's borders with his men to get rid of him. (This, does not work)

Zara is in the castle when a wounded wolf is brought in. The twin princes torture the wolf in front of Zara, and he begins to understand that the plague the Garibaldis have blamed on the wolves is not their fault. The wolves are sick with Zodiva as well, even if they were thought immune. Because they are the strongest and most resilient of all the peoples of Weblin, Zodiva affects them differently. The wolf they have captured, Rath, is infected with it. In fact, it is because the wolves are infected with Zodiva that they are attacking the villages and eating people.

Things begin to unravel as the wolves attack the castle to rescue Rath. Fiona (who has been held in the gardens with Julian -- the disinherited prince who now acts as gardener, but is as much a prisoner of the twin princes as Fiona is) encounters Arles, the leader of the wolves. Arles bites her as a message to Mejojo, but otherwise leaves her unharmed.

Nesso, who has defied orders to go to the frontier, mounts a rescue attempt with Zara, and they make their escape with Fiona and Julian. Unfortunately they encounter Auger in the tunnels and find out that Julian is actually a broken, insane person that the twins have made this way through systematic torture. Despite the betrayal, Nesso manages to defeat Auger, and he and Zara escape with Fiona and the distraught Julian. They discuss what they have learned. Zara reveals that the Garibaldis are keeping secret a partial cure for Zodiva -- a cure that will prevent it but may not stop the disease once it begins. There is a chance that Fiona is infected with Zodiva. Fiona surmises that the blood of a Lobeira might be able to cure a wolf of Zodiva after Arles bit her and knew about her condition based on the taste of her blood, since he seemed unaffected by Zodiva unlike most of his pack.

The foursome decide to go to the wolves to find out. They encounter Guillan and manage to fend him off. Eventually Arles appears with Rath and the other wolves and agrees to speak with them. They are taken to the wolves' stronghold of Zanan where they learn that ten years ago, Mejojo grew angry that his fiancee had fallen in love with Arles and chosen the wolf over him. When Arles took sick with Zodiva, biting Elvira (who was also a Lobeira) had cured him. But Mejojo had used the incident to try to kill Arles, instead slaying Elvira. He blamed her death on Arles and framed it as a revolt against the Garibaldi family. He coaxed his father into issuing the Wolf Genocide order and propagated the myth of the wolves spreading Zodiva all out of a personal vendetta.

Fiona and company ask the wolves if they'll cooperate with helping them develop a cure for Zodiva. Initially they refuse, but Arles does allow them to stay the night.

This is the point where Nesso will be coming from.

◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense?
Not even a little.

◎ Personality:
Nesso is, for the most part, a good guy. He's exceptionally dedicated -- both to his family as well as to his friends and his country. The truth of the matter is that his duty and his affection for his family, in particular his sister, is what guides every decision that he makes. Even being a knight and fighting fiercely for his country, he relates this back to wanting to create a safe place for Fiona to exist. Let's get it out of the way early, Nesso is a bit obsessed with his sister. Growing up, he's always known that she is a fragile, delicate thing. He's been the best big brother he could be, protecting her from the world at large along with their father. Because Fiona was sequestered in her tower to protect her fragile health, Nesso is one of the few people (in addition to their father, Zara, Pearl and Richie) that she had contact with. As such, he is the one who taught her many things and was there for her. His dedication to her borders on obsession. He will do anything for his sister. When they were children, they promised to grow up and marry one another -- a fact which Nesso remembers clearly and would be all too happy to see happen despite the fact that they are half-siblings. Fiona explains that this is not unusual for siblings to marry, especially nobility, but it is also not exactly common. For the most part, Nesso's protective instinct seems mostly in Fiona's best interest (though in the second game, Last Hope, one route brings out a destructive yandere side of him, so there may well be a darker side to his fixation on his sister, though it mostly manifests itself in being willing to take on the world to see her safe and happy.

Outside his feelings and devotion to Fiona, Nesso is an accomplished, successful person all on his own. That dedication and passion follows him to the battlefield. Even at a young age, he is the captain of the Gefreiter, a rather elite company of knights. His men, by all accounts, are very loyal and dedicated to him. This becomes clear when Elza -- his closest friend and vice-captain -- outright scolds Nesso for offering to reward them for their aid in defending Scharlmessen, his family home. Elza says that the men who've come have come because of their loyalty to Nesso and don't want a reward. Nesso feels indebted to them for their actions, but the fact that they would follow him and aid him without order or expectation of reward speaks to his ability as a leader.

His fighting prowess is impressive, and Nesso does not hesitate to fight when he needs to, but he also is possessed of self control. When he and Zara confront the twin princes about holding Fiona captive in the castle, Nesso is tempted to draw his sword in anger after they throw away the loyalty that existed between their families. He manages to rein himself in though, a fact which Auger laments since had he drawn his sword against him and Mejojo, that it would have been an act of treason. Despite being furious and nearly overwhelmed with concern and rage over the twins actions, he manages to keep a mostly level head.

Nesso can be quite impassioned and serious. When he cares about someone or something, there is no keeping him from what he believes is the best course for him. He and his father are willing to let their home burn and abandon their family estate and their country to have Fiona safe and sound with them. There is no regret in him at all at the idea. Nesso is willing to risk his life for the people he cares about without question, but then, he's a knight whose life is on the line for his country.

Despite growing up in the nobility and being a knight of the country, Nesso is also open-minded enough to listen and change his mind on things. He's been fighting the wolves to try to prevent slaughters in human villages, but when he and the others discover the lies the princes have told about the wolves, they seek them out. Even if he's wary of them, Nesso is willing to give the wolves a chance. Beyond that, he's even willing to give Julian a second chance after Julian shows his true, broken colors and betrays them. Julian explains that he doesn't want to be the way he is, and instead of leaving him behind and killing him, Nesso agrees to bring him along. He tells Julian that if he loses himself again, he could kill him easily, so it's no big deal, but the truth of the matter is, he's giving Julian a second chance, a chance to be himself.

All this paints a very serious picture of Nesso, and he can be a very serious person. But when things aren't in turmoil, when the situation isn't dire, Nesso is a jovial, gregarious man. He's quick to laugh and joke, teasing his sister and his friends. Though he's a proper knight, he's not exactly a stickler for propriety. Even if Zara is his family's servant, Zara refers to Nesso by his first name because they are old friends who have known each other for a very long time. There's an easygoing camaraderie between them, and Nesso doesn't hesitate to tease and joke with Zara, who seems comfortable doing the same.

Nesso's relationship with Elza is the same mix of serious and ridiculous. They're both impressively capable knights, captain and second in command of the Gefreiter, but when they are not actively in a serious situation, the two of them banter back and forth like it's a competitive sport. Nesso is quick to laugh and generally seems to be a happy person. He is eager to share the people he cares about with the other people he cares about -- Elza has heard enough about Fiona to be able to repeat stories about her and Zara and his family have all heard about Elza.

For the most part, Nesso is easy going and charismatic, friendly and quick to laugh and joke. When it comes to protecting his sister or his other friends or family, he is fierce and dedicated. Nothing short of death will stop him. He's exceptionally stubborn and will keep to the course he believes is best. He's impassioned and occasionally capable of sharp anger, but also impressive self-control. A fierce soldier and a loyalty-inspiring leader, he's willing to give up everything he's worked to build for himself to save his sister and preserve their family and their happiness. He's a little obsessive over his sister, but for the most part is willing to relinquish his hold on her so long as she will be happy.

◎ Powers/Abilities:
Nesso is a very normal human being. He has no particularly extraordinary powers or abilities. No magic, no second form.

He is, however, exceptionally skilled in combat and battle. He's a capable fighter, a god on the battlefield. He's also a good leader, inspiring loyalty in his men that seems to come ahead of even their loyalty to the royal family.

◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
His incredible siscon complex, Armor, Cape, Sword. Nesso will show up dressed for battle, but with nothing else to speak of in terms of inventory.

CEREALIA-Specific

◎ Element:
Fire. I swear it's not just because he's a ginger. But Nesso is a very intense person. He can be warm and gregarious, but he does not allow anyone to stand in between him and his goals, especially when they revolve around Fiona. He's capable of self control, but his emotions burn deeply inside him.

◎ Sense:
Touch. Nesso is physically a strong and imposing presence. He is not shy about hugging or touching or clasping onto the people he considers important. He does things with his own two hands.

◎ Seven Character Traits:
(Positive) - Loyal, Protective, Knightly
(Negative) - Possessive, Stubborn, Obsessive
(Extra) - Strong
